How does water finding paste work?

Water finding paste works by changing colour from orange to bright red on contact with water. 

SIMPLY:

• rub the paste onto a dipstick and lower it into your oil tank
• wait ten seconds
• take it out and observe the colour of the paste

The paste not only detects the presence of water but also the depth of the water. As you can see from the image the oil tank in question has 10cm of water.
